Who We Are

Berkeley, CA-based Terabase Energy is a venture backed startup founded in 2019 by solar industry leaders as a result of a technology spin out from SunPower Corporation. Our mission is to reduce the cost and accelerate the deployment of utility-scale solar through the digitalization of the solar power plant. Our goal is to deploy the platform to deliver $0.01/kWh solar by 2025.

To meet this goal, Terabase is developing a construction automation platform, named Terafab, aiming at improving safety, quality, cost, and schedule of large-scale solar projects under construction. To that end, Terabase is seeking a hardworking and passionate Manager, Pre-Construction and Estimating who will be part of a talented team focused on delivering a highly scalable and impactful solution.

Overview

As the Manager of Pre-Construction and Estimating, you will lead our pre-construction efforts, ensuring that all projects are meticulously planned and budgeted before breaking ground. Your expertise in estimating, market analysis, and strategic planning will be pivotal in steering Terafab projects from conception through to the commencement of construction, guaranteeing efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality. This position reports to the Head of the Construction Technology business unit.


What You'll Do at Terabase

  • Direct and coordinate pre-construction activities for the deployment of Terafab, including project planning, budgeting, estimating, and scheduling, to ensure project goals are met.
  • Analyze project documents and requirements to prepare detailed cost estimates, identifying key cost drivers and potential savings opportunities.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Operations teams and clients to align project objectives, specifications, and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive bids and proposals.
  • Develop and expand the existing Terafab cost estimating model.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of bids, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Implement risk management strategies to identify and mitigate potential project challenges.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the operations team, fostering a collaborative and performance-oriented environment.
  • Coordinate time and motion studies on large scale solar projects under construction, utilizing IoT and big data
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies (including construction automation), and best practices in construction management and estimation.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction management or estimation in the renewable industry, with a strong focus on pre-construction activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop accurate construction cost estimates and manage project budgets effectively.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., CAD, BIM, estimating software).
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and motivate team members.
  • Passionate about climate technologies
  • Location: US West coast
  • Travel required: up to 20%

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
